Several years ago, I started hearing about an idea called choice based art education. This is a research-based philosophy of art education that focuses on helping students develop as artists, as opposed to focusing solely on producing artwork. In the summer of 2016, I took an online class through the Art of Ed dealing with this concept. This class had lessons and readings on arranging the studio, classroom management, unit design, and advocacy, among other topics. I immediately began rearranging my studios to reflect this philosophy.
